The Tannery Retail and Hospitality Precinct

Planz played a key role in the successful regeneration of a large industrial brownfield area in Woolston, Christchurch, transforming it into the popular and unique Tannery retail and hospitality precinct. This project involved securing a suite of resource consents to support the staged development of the precinct, which has become a destination of choice in south Christchurch.

The Tannery’s evolution was driven by growing demand for boutique retail and hospitality options, as well as the need to address the significant earthquake damage in the area. All consents were obtained on a non-notified basis, following careful assessment of potential impacts on economic distribution, reverse sensitivity, traffic, and waterway values. Additionally, Planz contributed to the Christchurch District Plan Review, ensuring the Plan supported the regeneration of brownfield areas like The Tannery.

This project won an NZPI Commendations in 2014.
