Planz Consultants is proud to announce that Jonathan Clease has been awarded the prestigious Te Kōkiringa Taumata/ The New Zealand Planning Institute’s Distinguished Service Award. Every year, the NZPI celebrates excellence within the planning profession as part of World Town Planning Day (November 8th). The award recognises those who have dedicated their careers to advancing the planning profession in Aotearoa, celebrating individuals whose contributions in service, research, or practice have had a lasting impact.
With over 25 years of experience as a planner and a Masters in Urban Design, Jonathan brings an exceptional depth of expertise to his work. His career so far has spanned various areas, including plan preparation, policy development, resource consent applications, and providing evidence in Council and Environment Court hearings. His focus on higher-density housing, heritage, and urban growth demonstrates his commitment to addressing New Zealand’s evolving planning needs.
Recently, Jonathan played a key role in processing major private plan changes for Selwyn and Kaipara Councils, enabling over 3,000 new homes in the fast-growing areas of Prebbleton and Mangawhai. He also prepared substantial evidence to support a 1,900-house rezoning in Woodend as part of the Waimakariri District Plan Review.
Additionally, Jonathan led our team’s involvement in the Waikato District Plan Review, overseeing assessments of submissions on Rural, Village, and Residential Medium Density Zones. His work in Waikato emphasised a balanced approach to social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being outcomes, helping shape policies that reflect community needs and aspirations.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jonathan’s collaborative approach and attention to detail have earned him high regard among peers and clients alike. His leadership has brought invaluable insights and clarity to complex projects, ensuring robust and pragmatic outcomes.
Congratulations Jonathan on this well-deserved recognition. We’re excited to continue seeing his positive impact on Aotearoa’s planning landscape.
