The approved works at the marae include extending the whare kai and tea/coffee area, replacing the existing outdoor decking, and constructing a purpose-built laundry building within the front parking area. The new access track to the urupā replaces the previous informal grassed and graveled path, ensuring year-round access, particularly during winter months.
Additionally, Planz assisted in obtaining resource consent to restore and relocate a historic school building within 9 Kina Road. Originally situated near a cliff edge and at risk from coastal erosion, the consented works enable the building to be used for activities associated with the marae complex, including the Whakaraupō Carving Centre and Conservation Volunteers New Zealand.
We continue to work with Ngāti Wheke on future developments of the Marae as their needs and requirements grow.
