Invercargill CBD Redevelopment

Client | Invercargill City Council
Project Personnel | Jonathan Clease, Tim Joll
Location and Completion Date | Invercargill 2018–19

The Planz team processed the resource consents on behalf of the Invercargill City Council for two significant projects in the town centre. Both applications were complex, and required careful balancing of competing heritage and urban regeneration outcomes, where existing building stock had heritage value but was also earthquake prone and was suffering from a high degree of deferred maintenance. The projects facilitated the development respectively of a large hotel on the corner of Don and Dee Street and the comprehensive redevelopment of a CBD block for a new mixed use commercial, retail, and entertainment precinct.

Both applications were publicly notified and attracted a large number of submissions, reflecting the Community interest in these strategic projects. Tim and Jonathan presented evidence at the hearings, with the independent hearings panels agreeing with their recommendations. Site clearance and construction works for both projects is underway.
