District Plan Template Investigation

Planz conducted a comprehensive review of spatial planning tools that were in use across Regional and District Plans throughout New Zealand. This project, commissioned by the Ministry for the Environment (MfE), aimed to identify best practices and common challenges in the existing planning frameworks.

The findings from this study have supported The Ministry for the Environment in developing a standardised template approach to facilitate greater consistency and efficiency in District Plan drafting nationwide. By providing a detailed analysis of the various tools and methodologies employed by different regions, Planz offered valuable insights that have contributed to more streamlined and effective planning processes. The potential template approach aims to enhance uniformity, reduce complexity, and improve the overall quality of District Plans across the country, ultimately benefiting both local councils and the communities they serve.
