Nelson Airport – Jenkins Creek Bridges

Planz Consultants are proud to have played a key role in securing the necessary planning approvals for the exciting new bridges across Jenkins Creek.

Overview:
Nelson Airport is embarking on a project that will involve a significant upgrade to its premises which will involve the construction of new vehicular and pedestrian bridges over Jenkins Creek to access a 2ha land locked site. This site will provide for a new car parking precinct to accommodate airport users. The relocation of the current value car parking area to the new car park precinct will then enable development of the southern precinct to accommodate a range of new buildings and facilities to support airport related activities.

Our Role:
Planz Consultants was engaged as the lead planning advisor to secure the necessary statutory approvals under the RMA. The role included managing complex consenting pathways, including both district and regional based consents, and facilitating engagement with regulatory agencies.

Key Contributions:
Planz supported both airport staff and a range of technical consultants to deliver a robust application and assessment of environmental effects addressing potential effects on neighbouring land uses, aquatic and terrestrial ecology, water quality, cultural values, traffic, noise, flood water conveyance, water supply, wastewater, and stormwater management.

Outcome:
All 5 resource consents were granted and the outline plan process completed without the need for notification or a hearing, reflecting an effective strategy and collaborative approach. The successful consenting process will now enable Nelson Airport to proceed with confidence on its development, which is expected to improve the customer and passenger experience and provide for greater operational efficiency of the airport premises.
