Our work

Belfast Commercial Centre

Planz Consultants assisted Belfast Village Centre Limited in obtaining resource consent for the development of a new greenfield commercial centre in Belfast.

The 4.5-hectare site encompasses both Commercial Core Zone (CCZ) and Residential New Neighbourhood Zone (RNNZ) land, with the project unfolding in three stages.

  • Stage 1: This initial stage saw the successful establishment of a Countdown supermarket, complete with associated car parking, servicing, and landscaping.
  • Stage 2: This stage involves developing the Belfast Village Centre with seven new commercial buildings will host a mix of food and beverage outlets, retail stores, commercial services, a gym, and large format retail, expanding commercial activities into greenfield RNNZ land. The plan includes access, parking, and loading areas to support the development.Stage 3: Future developments are likely to include a medical centre, subject to future resource consent applications if necessary, located at the site’s south-western corner behind the Countdown.

In addition to securing consents for these stages, our team was involved in submissions and evidence related to Christchurch City Council’s Plan Change 5 process, which resulted in additional land being rezoned from residential to commercial, supporting the expansion of the Belfast Village Centre.
