The Christchurch Coastal Pathway, a collaboration between the local community and the Christchurch City Council, extends from Ferrymead to Scarborough Beach and opened in late November 2023.

A highlight is the segment between Shag Rock and the Moncks Bay Yacht Club, featuring a unique cantilevered design over Moncks Bay.

Planz work on the Moncks Bay segment balancing technical ingenuity with natural beauty and ecological sensitivity. The project used advanced planning techniques to reclaim coastal land while protecting local penguin habitats. Its complex construction involved diverting coastal and groundwater, showcasing innovative environmental solutions.

Joint consent from the Christchurch City Council and regional council was required, and effective communication and collaboration were key to navigating the statutory environment and securing coastal permits. The Pathway has transformed into a vibrant esplanade, attracting over a million users annually, including tourists, and becoming a symbol of resilience and community spirit. It enhances community connectivity and environmental appreciation in Christchurch’s southeastern suburbs.
