Our work

Taupō District Plan Review

Planz has maintained a longstanding relationship with Taupō District Council, providing comprehensive planning support across various aspects of the District Plan.

Our work began with resolving Environment Court appeals related to the commercial chapter of the District Plan, which required a thorough evaluation of the overall policy approach for retail distribution and an in-depth analysis of zone boundaries and rule frameworks.

In addition, Planz has played a key role in a series of Plan Changes (28–33), aimed at creating a cohesive approach to retail distribution, zone boundaries, and strategic growth within Taupō. This involved providing strategic and policy advice, preparing planning reports, and managing public consultation and hearings processes. The Plan Changes were aligned with the higher-order planning framework and have been recognized as a successful model for managing retail activities within urban townships.

Planz also supported the Council in progressing Private Plan Changes (36, 37) and Plan Reviews (40, 43), focusing on urban boundary expansion, residential growth, and industrial land resources. These projects involved close collaboration with the Council’s Planning Team, addressing environmental issues, infrastructure, and Taupō’s geothermal assets. Planz has been instrumental in reviewing changes, preparing expert reports, and leading the Hearing process, ensuring that the District’s planning framework remains effective and responsive to community needs.
