Located in Hillsborough, Ōtautahi (Christchurch), the school’s site presented unique challenges as it is situated within the Industrial General Zone. Our team successfully prepared and submitted the resource consent application, ensuring that all potential issues were effectively addressed. Operating a school in this zone could have created concerns about reverse sensitivity, with the potential for noise complaints from the school putting neighbouring industrial businesses at risk. Additionally, the school’s vehicle generation posed the potential for traffic and transport safety impact concerns. In collaboration with the school and other consultants, we developed some measures to reduce these risks, including staggered pick-up times to reduce traffic congestion and ensuring windows remained closed to mitigate noise sensitivity. Through careful planning and strategic solutions, we successfully addressed potential challenges, securing the necessary consents to allow MSNZ to open and provide vital educational services for at-risk students
