The works included the installation of a flying fox, climbing pyramid, pump track, in-ground trampolines, and other play equipment to enhance the outdoor environment for children in care.
Although the proposal was focused on improving existing outdoor play areas, the site’s location within multiple overlays, including the Coastal Environment, Cliff Collapse and Slope Instability Management Areas meant a careful and comprehensive planning approach was required.
Additional planning complexity arose due to the site’s classification as a Community Welfare Facility within the Residential Small Settlement Zone, and because some new structures were proposed within the road boundary setback.
Our role included identifying and addressing District Plan rule breaches, managing potential adverse effects and responding to matters of cultural significance. We engaged proactively with key stakeholders to ensure any effects were well understood and appropriately mitigated.
The application was processed on a non-notified basis, with Council concluding that all effects would be less than minor, enabling this important community-focused project to move forward without delay.
